Everything equestrian!

So tonight is one of the worst nights for horse owners! I didn’t want to leave my horses tonight, but they didn’t seem to be too bothered by the noise.

After speaking to a few people at my yard about their tips and ideas to keep their horses calm on loud nights like this.

1) The main point was to make your horse as comfortable as possible, plenty of hay and water, and nice cozy rug (weight depending on the weather).

2) Add some sort of yummy treat that they can munch on throughout the night, maybe a likit or a treat ball.

3) Put some sort of fun activity in the stable like carrots in a tightly packed hay net, apples in the water buckets, or even a football!

4) One friend, (which actually sounds a bit crazy but makes complete sense!) said, if you have a close electrical supply, put a CD or leave the radio on at a low enough level not to disturb but to almost blank out the noise from fireworks.

5) And if all of these fail, I would suggest a good old fashioned calmer in their tea time feed, or instant calmer, like NAF Magic tubes.

Hope you and all your horses have a calm and quiet bonfire night!

And let me know of your hints, tips and ideas for keeping your horses calm on the noisiest of all nights!
